WEEK 8 RECAP
Sharks 11 Hurricanes 0
Lukas Farraher dominated with a solid 4-goal performance while Brian Strouse, filled in as goalie and recorded the 1st Freshman Division shutout of the season. Jase Kavanagh continued his hot goal scoring streak with two while the Sharks had 4 other goal scorers in this game. The Sharks are full steam ahead as they move into the 3rd seed for the playoffs and have a rematch with the Canes in round 1.
Wild 8 Penguins 7
This one was Wild! The division leading Penguins fall in a shootout as Brenden Palmer was the lone goal scorer in the shootout. Brayden Padula dominated the 1st line scoring 5 goals which helped the Wild stay course with the Pens. The Pens had big performances from 2nd Liners Thomas Ryan and Mathew Lutwick as they each scored twice. Although the Pens fall to the two seed, they receive a bye in the 1st round. The Wild will move forward and play the Blues, which is definitely an exciting 1st round matchup.
Semifinals:
Avalanche 11 Capitals 10
The Capitals could very well still be in shock from this one. They led 10-9 late in the game. However, the game doesn't end until the final buzzer as two costly turn-overs in their own zone led to the Avalanche's shocking win. Jack Drew scored his 6th goal of the game with 11.9 seconds remaining. He wasn't finished as he assisted on Nate Clagnaz's game winning goal with 1.4 seconds in the game, sending the Avs to the Sophomore Division Championship Game. Nino Fernandez recorded 4 points (2 G, 2 A) and skated hard all game to help move the Avs into the final round of the playoffs. For the Caps, Luke Padula had an impressive game scoring 6 goals while Luke Mildeberger, Shane Renyak and Sophie Bjorgvinsdottir all scored for the Caps.
Semifinals:
Red Wings 7 Stars 6
The Red Wings team defense, led by Christopher Keane has been their advantage over the division all season long. Oh and once you do get passed them, you have to beat Thomas Primrose in net. The Stars top players were held to below average numbers (when compared to how they performed during the regular season). The Big 4 (Sam Johnson, Joseph Adamo, Matthew Maran and Anthony Menechino) we held to just 5 goals. For the Wings, they were led by Aj Navarro's hatty. Patrick Casserly and William Gavinovich also scored twice for the Wings leading them to the Championship round.
Ducks 11 Blues 9
The Blues fought hard but their comeback fell just shy of taking out the mighty Ducks, who now clinched the division. The Ducks Logan Maslauskas and Brendan Hoefenkrieg combined for 9 of the Ducks goals. For the Blues, 3rd liner Marco Tseretopoulos proves week to week why he's one of the top 3rd liners in the league as he recorded 4 goals in this one. Jayce Vanasco captured leading scorer honors with his 4-point performance. The Ducks get a 1st round bye while the Blues will battle it out against the Wild in the quarterfinals.
Championship - Game 1:
Avalanche 7 Red Wings 5
Jack Drew was presented with the Division's M.V.P. award prior to the contest and he sure didn't disappoint in Game 1 of the ship. Jack recorded tallies on all of the Avs 7 goals as he knew when to stop shooting and turn on his play-making abilities to dish the puck to his open teammates. After being out all season with a broken wrist, Vincent Catalfomo didn't miss a beat as he recorded a hat-trick in his first game back. Tendy Charles McMahon made some HUGE saves in the late stages of the 2nd half to help the Avs take game 1.
